Explanation of Resin
+”IM8 Silica Nano Matrix (SNM) resin™ Composites feature a revolutionary technology that transforms how carbon fiber materials perform. This breakthrough is enabled by the unique ability to formulate resin systems with high concentrations of spherical nano-sized silica particles. Because the particles are so small, they are able to flow between individual filaments of carbon fiber. This provides a dense matrix of strength throughout the entire composite. The resulting material enables designers to develop rods that are not only incredibly strong and durable, but also lighter in weight and more sensitive.”
+”Standard composite materials have lower resin stiffness and are prone to cracking or buckling under the stresses a rod sees during a good day of fishing. The more nanoparticles the resin contains, the higher the crack resistance and overall rod toughness. The IM8 Silica Nano Matrix (SNM) resin composite material contains an astonishing 40 percent of nanoparticles uniformly dispersed and densely packed throughout the resin.”
+”While other companies have reported adding nano technology to their composite materials, none have been successful at adding more than single-digit percentages. For example, carbon nano tubes have a high length-to-width ratio of 15:1, so they are not able to disperse uniformly throughout the carbon fibers.”
+”IM8 Silica Nano Matrix (SNM) resin™ is truly a game changer that bends the rules of carbon fiber composites. The tiny, spherical nanoparticles create such a strong bond between the carbon fibers that rod stress is more evenly dissipated. This leads to a significantly stronger, more durable and more flexible rod. By improving strength and sensitivity, IM8 Silica Nano Matrix (SNM) resin gives you performance when it counts.”
These rods contain the highest quality components. Solid titanium, Amtac Titan ring lock guides, are inert in salt water, making them corrosion proof. Titanium is flexible, as well, allowing guide feet to bend with the rod blank, eliminating dead spots and resulting in a smoother more accurate cast.
AAAA select cork rings are used on all grips as well as composite caps for added strength. The Opal 8 wt. and 9 wt. rods have full wells grips, while 10 wt. and 11 wt. rods incorporate the Beulah force grip for added leverage. We rounded out the rods with a custom Beulah reel seat with engraved logo and uni directional locking ring.
Opal Reel Seat:
Custom design with logo engraving on both sides of reel seats. Reel foot lock ring slides without spinning on tracked groove for easy reel foot placement.
Custom design nickel plating over anodized aluminum with titanium finish hardware, and a stabilized maple burl wood insert.
Opal grips use hand select AAAA Portuguese corks with the least possible inclusions for excellent durability and cosmetics.
